The initiative encourages, government, extractive companies, International agencies and NGO’s to work together to develop a framework to promote transparency of payments in the extractive industries.

EITI pursues a policy of openness which promotes the concept of tolerance and good governance through the disbursement of royalties to benificiary communities and public disclosures...

Government's strategy for the sector is based on the recognition that the development of solid minerals in a sustainable manner can not be achieved without a deep involvement of the affected communities.

The EITI strategy calls for the definition of effective ways and means to empower and engage mining communities in the development process and to promote responsible behavior....

Newmont Generates 10% of Ghana’s Export PDF Print E-mail

Newmont GhanaGold Limited- (NGGL) has stated that it currently generates nearly 10% of Ghana’s total export revenue. In addition, the company says it has provided 99 local companies with six million dollars worth of contracts. So far the company has pro­vided, employment to about, 48,000 people directly and indi­rectly in the country including more than 400 indirect mine em­ployment in 2010. These were contained in a research carried out on the socio-economic impact of the company's operations in the Ahafo area of the Brong Ahafo Region by the INSEAD Business School of France.

Newmont Ghana Reaffirms its Commitment to Respecting the Culture of its Host Communities PDF Print E-mail

Newmont Golden Ridge 9Newmont Ghana b says it will continue to respect and work with traditional authorities to follow established cultural norms and practices for dealing with the issues of cemeteries located within Yayaaso community.  The company, which has come under attack recently for allegedly disrespecting the norms and values of the Birem traditional area said in a statement issued last week that it has not exhumed any human remains, relocated any mausoleum or culturally significant sites within its concession area, assuring its host communities that, it will continue to transparently and collaboratively engage with them with honesty, trust and respect.

Vice President commends Goldfields international PDF Print E-mail

H. E. John Mahama - Vice President of the Republic of GhanaVice President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday commended Goldfields International for their capacity building programmes for all indigenous companies engaged in the gold industry. “We are also grateful for your immense contribution towards the success story of Ghana Black Stars in global football.”

Vice President Mahama gave this commendation when three Board members of Goldfield International called on him at the Castle, Osu.  The members, who are currently holding their international board meeting in Accra, took time to interact with government officials and to fine-tune some of their business engagements with Ghanaian companies.

Newmont Ahafo Mine targets 1.2 million ounces of gold PDF Print E-mail

Newmont Ahafo Mine at Kenyase, in the Asutifi District of the Brong Ahafo Region, has targeted to increase its annual gold production to 1.2 million ounces by the year 2014. Mr Kojo Bedu-Addo, the External Affairs Manager of the Company, said this would be achieved after the start of their underground operations.
